Pam reports on their life:
Ron and I just entered a new phase of life.
In January, Ron retired from the Federal Highway Administration after 38 years. I retired from teaching high school
technology at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona, in June, 2004.
We moved to Corona de Tucson, a small place east of Tucson
with great desert and mountain views. Ron’s Dad, brother, and niece live in Tucson. One of our first tasks
in retirement was to move my parents to Tucson from their home in Sierra Vista. We would like to think that, after
living in Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia, Maryland, Nevada, West Virginia, Michigan and Phoenix, we are finally settled--that
is, if you don’t count our many travels.
We have spent these first months of retirement making trips
to Nashville and Wichita. We purchased a pop-up camper and have already put over 6,000 miles on it. In June we will
go to Toronto for the International Right of Way Conference. Ron has been active in the organization over the years and we
love the chance to see new places and talk with old friends. After a visit with brother Mike and his family in Batavia,
Illinois, we will take a trip roughly along the Lewis and Clark Trail. We have been researching the trip. Yellowstone,
the Grand Tetons, Great Falls, and a side trip to South Dakota are on our agenda. In October we will take a trip to Hawaii,
to celebrate 40 years of marriage.
Life is full. We work with St. Vincent de Paul, serving the
poor. I became involved in coaching a FIRST Robotics team in 2000 and spent four years building robots with
my team. We won the Southern California Regional in 2001 and went to Epcot Disney World in 2001 and 2002. I am
a member of the FIRST Robotics Arizona Regional Planning Committee and am trying to recruit new high school teams
in the Tucson Area. This March I worked the competition as a pit administrator. We play a little BAD golf. My big
hobby is machine embroidery (please see the "Talents and Hobbies" page). Ron is still in touch with the local International
Right of Way Chapter.
Below is a picture of Ron and me with Diana's daughter, Gabby Williams, and a picture
of my parents, Bill and Helen Mahood, with our son, Bruce.
